Can I include jQuery and AJAX in the same file? Would this conflict?

Can I include jQuery and AJAX in the same file? Would this conflict?

I am attempting to include jQuery with a Magento GO template, but when I upload and include jQuery in the template, the drop down menus/etc. stop working. The links all still work fine, but the dropdown menus, and other similar functionality stop working…

I believe this may be because Magento includes AJAX in the hosted solution on their end..?

JQuery slider not showing in IE and Chrome, but showing on FF

I downloaded a jQuery slider from and embeded it into my site. It has the ability to play, pause, forward and previous scroll the pictures. It was working fine before on all three browsers, but it wasn’t showing the icons for controlling the slider.

So I declared a variable in the head, and assigned them the path of each picture. Then, I called those variables instead of pictures. Now it is showing on Firefox, but not on any other browser. The slider is on left side after the login form on my site.

Magento + jquery slider $ is not defined

I’m integrating a content slider into magento theme, but having some issue with the js.
I get the error “$ is not defined”, then I found a solution from a website stating that I should add this line “jQuery.noConflict();” into my jquery file.

Then in the home.phtml, :-

</action>
<action method="addJs"></action>

<action method="addJs"></action>

After I done the above changes, I get the error “jQuery is not defined”

Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

This problem is solved by calling the js from the CMS page->content :-

At the CMS page -> Design , include the js files needed :-

<reference name="head">
 <action method="addItem"><type>skin_css</type>
</action>
 <action method="addItem"><type>skin_js</type>
</action>
<action method="addItem"><type>skin_js</type>
</action>

However this method is only useful if only a particular page is using the js and not every page. 🙂

Programmatically changing cart totals in Magento

I’m in the process of building a rental site based on Magnento with all of the rental options (date, duration, etc…) configured on the cart page. As all of the products are coming into the cart without pricing, once the options are set the grand and sub totals for the quote need to be updated before moving on to checkout. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

The site is for the record… Just get to a 404 to advance past the splash page.

MAGENTO: complex custom options

I am trying to create a complex custom option and am having difficulty figuring it out. What I want is a list of radio buttons with labels next to each showing height and width (ex. label would look like 1.5′ x 3′. Thats the easy part.

Now, if a user clicks one of those radio buttons I want to display a text input (right next to the radio button label) to accept a value for length so that when the product is sent to the cart it shows something like 1.5′ x 3′ x 60′.

I figure jquery will get me down the road with hide/show part. It’s the combination of inputs and pushing that concatenated data to the cart where I’m confused.

Drop down (select) form elements not working in Safari 4.0.5

I have a commerce website that I have been involved with that has been created using Magento.

Some users have been complaining about the select form elements not working. If you try clicking on them they do not expand. I have been able to replicate it and it appears that these tags are not working correctly in Safari 4.0.5.

The funny thing is if I copy the HTML source code for the offending page and past it into an HTML file that resided on my machine locally, the select tags work correctly.

I suspect that it could be a JavaScript issue but I wouldn’t even know where to start looking for a solution.

If anybody with the ability to test under Safari 4.0.5 is able to test the link above and give me some feedback it would be greatly appreciated.

Load search form results inline with jQuery, instead of on a new page

I’m trying to build a custom search form for an e-commerce setup built on Magento.

This search form consists of several (dropdown) select boxes. The form is functioning properly, but after you choose your search values and submit the form, you’re taken to a new page with the results.

Search page URL:
Results page URL:

What I would like to do is instead load the search results in a div below the form with some jQuery.

I’ve searched and have found several examples of this, but I can’t seem to get anywhere. I’ve also come across a few similar threads here on Stack Overflow, but nothing here has worked for me as of yet.

Thank you for any help or guidance on this.

Jquery and ajax only working from within an iframe

I´ve been researching this all day and can’t seem to find the right answer to my predicament.

I’m working on this Magento based store that uses a template that works with both prototype (this is what Magento works with by default) and jQuery with the noConflict trick. Everything seems to work just fine in Firefox, but when I open the exact same page in Chrome and IE7 most jQuery code and even ajax is non-functional.

Now it gets interesting because if I load my page via an iframe and open it in Chrome everything works just fine!

Is there any reason why this is happening? Do you have any pointers on what is the problem?

This is the website I’m working on:

Thanks in advance

Drop down menu not working in Magento when using jQuery slider

I have a problem with getting dropdown menu to appear in Magento when using jQuery slider on home page. (displays normally on all other pages)

I’m very much new to all this but from what i understand its clashing with Magentos Prototype library. But so far any guides i was able to find online haven’t fixed the issue.

I’m using the google hosted version when importing scripts, and i import them in the HTML body so they only load on the front page where they are needed.

I have already tried adding
to head.phtml or in the actual script, replacing the $ with jQuery, self hosting it and adding <action method="addItem"><type>skin_js</type>
</action> in the page.xml layout file…

… and everything i’ve done so far hasn’t worked. It either didn’t fix the navigation or it fixed the navigation but crashed the slider.

Any clues? Thanks in advance for the help.
